Construction of New Inter and Milan Stadiums Begins, Biglietteria Sud San Siro Destroyed

Demolition of the Sud biglietteria at San Siro has begun as a first step towards the construction of Inter and Milan's new stadiums. However, the project faces criticism and environmental issues that need to be resolved.

Work on the demolition of the biglietteria Sud at the San Siro stadium has begun with the presence of heavy machinery to bring down the historic structure. This is the first step towards the construction of a new stadium for Inter and Milan which is planned to officially start between 2026 and 2027, with a target completion date of 2031. Despite this, this move has sparked protests and controversy among the public.

Two board members, Enrico Fedrighini (Gruppo Misto) and Alessandro Giungi (Pd), have criticized the lack of transparency and information regarding the project, especially as the Tedua concert is taking place nearby. In their response, the clubs stated that all permits had been complied with and that the project was supported by documents submitted to the city government on March 27.

On the other hand, environmental problems have arisen in the Parco dei Capitani area, which is located between Tesio street and the stadium. This area is currently closed to the public pending the cleaning process. Although the city government claims that the area is ecologically safe, recent tests carried out by Inter and Milan show the presence of pollutants that exceed legal limits. Even though it is not classified as a hazardous material that can cause direct harm to health, this material does not meet the specified standards, so it requires mandatory cleaning.

The start of this work also comes at a time when a legal decision from Tar Lombardia is awaited, which will determine the fate of five lawsuits filed by committees and associations opposing the demolition of the Meazza stadium and the sale of the land. Although the city government and the clubs have asked that the lawsuit be dismissed as unfounded, the court's decision will be announced within the next 60 days and will largely determine whether Inter and Milan's plans to launch a new design in the autumn can proceed or must be stalled before the Council of State.
