Russian Cup Best Player Talks About Work in Marketplace Warehouse

“Irkutsk” forward Ivan Yakovlev recently opened up about his work at a marketplace warehouse while continuing his football career. Last season, Yakovlev was the Russian Cup top scorer, scoring five goals, the same number as several other players from the Russian Premier League. However, he was the one with the fewest number of matches (three matches), so the award for top scorer was given to him.

— What about salaries at the club? Have payments started? Or do you still have to work in a marketplace warehouse to support your family?

— Beating the giants in the race for the title of top scorer is pride, joy and a chance to go down in history. Currently, we only receive a small portion of our salaries. We hope the situation at the club improves soon. I myself chose to take this job so that I could provide for my family. I have a wife and two children. We practice, after practice we go straight to work.

— How much does it cost to support a family?

— Everyone has different needs. There are payments to be made. I don't know, the number varies from person to person.

— What are the plans for next season in the Russian Cup?

— We want to repeat the success, perform better. However, the main task is to defend the club. When everything returns to normal, then we can talk about bigger goals," explained Yakovlev in an interview on the television channel "Match TV".
