Mexico Coach Aguirre Praises Historic Victory

Mexico coach, Javier Aguirre, revealed that his team's 2-0 victory over Ecuador in the World Cup was the best achievement in his coaching career. With this result, Mexico managed to reach the fifth match in the World Cup, after previously only being able to reach the knock-out phase in four consecutive editions. This victory means a lot to Aguirre and all Mexican fans, considering that his team has fought hard to reach the round of 16. At the Azteca Stadium, Mexico put on an impressive performance with goals scored by Julian Quinones and Raul Jimenez in the first half. This victory also made Mexico the first team from CONCACAF to beat a team from CONMEBOL in a World Cup knockout match. With this victory, Aguirre recorded new history for Mexico, which last tasted victory in the knock-out round in 1986. Aguirre emphasized that the feeling of satisfaction he felt that night was extraordinary. "Of course, this is the best win of my career. I have had some good wins, but nothing like this. This is at home, with our people. When there are whistles and boos, I am the first to admit, but tonight was a perfect night," said Aguirre.  He also explained that Mexico's success that night was due to the extraordinary support of the supporters. "I know how much it hurts not to advance to the fifth match, but tonight was a great night for all Mexicans. I'm proud of the team's fight. Quinones and [Roberto] Alvarado played to their limits. We'll have to see how they are after this match." With the addition of two goals from Jimenez, Quinones is now part of Mexico's World Cup history after becoming the second player to score more than one goal in one edition of the World Cup, after Luis Hernandez in 1998. Aguirre closed his statement by saying, "We are a family, even for those who don't play, this is an extraordinary group. We play well, and the opposing players have to catch up with us. I hope we can take advantage of better opportunities in the next match. Most importantly, the Mexican people deserve this."
