Laporta Presses Atlético: 'Offer for Álvarez Will Not Be Open
Joan Laporta, President of FC Barcelona, recently confirmed that the club has submitted an official offer for Argentinian youngster Julián Álvarez to Atlético Madrid. In his statement, Laporta explained that Sports Director Deco had taken concrete steps by submitting an offer to the club from Madrid. However, he also emphasized that Barcelona would not wait forever to get a response from Atlético. "Deco has made an offer for this player. I have spoken directly with Atlético Madrid and explained this situation," said Laporta in an interview with Spanish media. He added that Barcelona were aware that Julián had wanted to join the Catalan club for a long time, even before he moved to Manchester City. "At that time, we did not have sufficient funds to recruit him," he added. Laporta revealed that Atlético Madrid have stated that they do not want to sell Álvarez because they have not found a suitable replacement. However, Barcelona is ready to be patient, although not infinitely. "They told us that they don't want to sell, because they don't have an alternative yet. I've said that our offer will remain valid once they find a replacement. We will keep the offer as long as we deem necessary, but we will not rely on Atlético's decision. They already know our intentions. If they want to continue talks, we are very open to that," said Laporta. On the other hand, Atlético Madrid previously announced that they intend to file a complaint with FIFA and the Spanish Football Federation regarding Barcelona's approach towards Julián Álvarez. Responding to this, Laporta expressed his lack of understanding of this step. "I honestly don't understand where the problems with FIFA and this federation come from. Atlético responded to our interest even before Julián himself revealed that he dreams of playing for a big club. We have acted transparently. Their strategy is their own business, and I respect that. However, our offer remains. If they want to accept it, we will of course be very happy," concluded Laporta. Given this situation, Barcelona is showing serious interest in Julián Álvarez, who is one of the best young talents in the world today. This move could be part of Barcelona's big plan to strengthen their squad in the future. Would Atlético Madrid consider this offer? Time will tell.Read more on our latest coverage and stay tuned for updates on what happens next.
