Keenan Patten Extends Contract at Newport County

Keenan Patten has extended his stay at Newport County on a new short-term contract, looking to revive his career after injury.

Midfielder Keenan Patten will remain at Newport County after agreeing a new short-term contract at the League Two club. The 25-year-old former Barry Town man has made six appearances for Newport, including one start, since joining the club in February 2025. Patten was previously due to become a free agent this summer, but will now remain with the Exiles. Newport has not detailed the length of Patten's contract, but stated that he hopes to "revive his career at Rodney Parade after a difficult period due to injury". After suffering a broken leg last July, Patten's only senior football experience in the 2025-26 season came during a loan spell at Barry. Patten's new contract follows the signings of ex-Bromley defender Kyle Cameron, ex-Blackpool defender Dan Sassi, as well as strikers Christian Doidge and Yahya Bamba - both former Forest Green players - and Shaquille Gwengwe (Poole Town) from non-league. Defenders Cameron Norman and Cameron Evans have also signed new contracts, along with midfielders Harrison Biggins and all-rounder Ciaran Brennan. Michael Spellman, Bobby Kamwa and captain Matt Baker have left the club, while seven other players have not been offered new contracts. County, who return to pre-season training on Monday, June 29, are also looking for a new manager, with Chris Todd in interim charge following the departure of Christian Fuchs.
