Javier Saviola has backed Julian Alvarez as the ideal choice for Barcelona, praising Alvarez's versatility and potential to thrive in the team's system.
Javier Saviola, the former Barcelona striker, expressed his belief that the Catalan club is the ideal destination for Julian Alvarez. According to him, the Argentine striker's flexibility and intelligence make him suitable for the playing system implemented by coach Hansi Flick.
Speaking on the Tot gira program on Catalunya Radio (quoted from Mundo Deportivo), Saviola analyzed Alvarez's playing style and explained why the Atletico Madrid striker could reach a higher level if surrounded by Barcelona's talented squad.
Saviola explained: "He is not an ordinary goalscorer. I see him as a very complete player; he can play on the wing, as an attacking midfielder or as a deeper playmaker. You not only see the goalscorer, but also that he is technically very good."

Saviola emphasized his opinion regarding the future of his compatriot. He believes the Blaugrana's playing style will allow Alvarez to express all aspects of his game, not just be judged by the number of goals scored. “Barça is the ideal team, which can let him be more involved in the game, he will be surrounded by great players who give very high performance,” he added.
He also stressed that Barcelona's possession-based football would allow Alvarez to be more influential. Saviola explained that the Atletico Madrid striker should not only be seen as a replacement for Robert Lewandowski, because the two have very different qualities.
“He has nothing to do with Lewandowski, who is a more clinical striker,” he said. When asked in which position Alvarez will perform optimally, Saviola highlighted the role behind the main striker. “As an attacking midfielder,” said Saviola. "He is very intelligent, decisive and a complete player; in that position he can accelerate, turn quickly and has excellent control and possession of the ball," he added.
Despite preferring Alvarez as an attacking midfielder, Saviola believes he can also perform well as a false nine. "He can do both roles well, which is why he is highly sought after by coaches," concluded Saviola.
