According to a report from Mundo Deportivo, FC Barcelona is expected to officially announce Andreas Christensen's contract extension between Monday and Tuesday, ending speculation regarding the Danish defender's future after his previous contract expired. As has been reported, the two parties have reached an agreement on a contract that will last for two seasons until 2028. However, there is a flexible arrangement that allows either Barcelona or Christensen to terminate the contract after the first year if the situation changes.
One of the main factors behind Christensen's decision to stay at Barcelona was the trust shown by head coach Hansi Flick. Before suffering a partial tear of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during training ahead of Christmas, Christensen had featured in 12 games under the German, who views him as a key part of the defensive plans.
Despite receiving more financially lucrative offers from Saudi Arabia, the Premier League and the Bundesliga, the 30-year-old chose to continue his career in Catalonia. Christensen has agreed a new contract.
During his injury rehabilitation, Christensen received assurances from senior figures within the club, including president-elect Joan Laporta, that a new contract would be offered soon. This decision was based not only on his football abilities, but also on his professionalism and willingness to help the club during a difficult financial period.
