Thibaut Courtois confirmed his desire to retire at Real Madrid after another four or five years, and implied that the 2026 World Cup could be the last of his international career.

Real Madrid have endured some difficult seasons where they failed to win a single prestigious trophy. Many of their star players did not show the expected performance during that period, but one player who proved reliable and consistent was Thibaut Courtois.

Currently at the 2026 World Cup with Belgium, Courtois recently gave an interview to journalist Alberto Pereiro, in which he reiterated his desire to end his career at Real Madrid after playing for another four or five years. "My dream is to continue for another 4 or 5 years in Madrid. I've been here for 8 years and I want to end my career here," said Courtois.

This is the second time in recent weeks that the 34-year-old goalkeeper has expressed his desire to retire at the Santiago Bernabeu. Courtois also revealed that he extended his contract with Real Madrid last year without anyone realizing, saying: "Last year I extended my contract and no one noticed."

Meanwhile, Courtois also gave a big signal that his international career may be coming to an end. The 34-year-old goalkeeper, who returned to the Belgian side under Rudi Garcia after his dispute with former coach Domenico Tedesco, confirmed that this may be his last World Cup. “This may be my last World Cup,” he said.

Courtois' last World Cup with Belgium started disappointingly, as they drew back-to-back draws against Egypt and Iran, with the goalkeeper managing to keep clean in the match against Iran. The Red Team will face New Zealand in the final match of Group G, hoping to achieve victory and qualify for the knockout stages.

Courtois joined Real Madrid in 2018, after previously playing at Chelsea. Despite starting his career at Madrid with some difficulty, he has established himself as one of the best in the world. And whenever he decides to end his career, he will do so as a legend.
