The Netherlands will face Tunisia in the closing match of the 2026 World Cup group stage. However, regardless of the result, they are faced with a tough challenge in the knockout rounds against Morocco or Brazil.
The Netherlands will finish their 2026 World Cup group stage campaign early Friday by facing Tunisia, who have already been eliminated. The team from North Africa performed poorly, and the Dutch were expected to achieve an easy victory and give coach Ronald Koeman the opportunity to give playing minutes to the reserve players.
However, regardless of whether the Dutch finish the group stage in first or second place, they will face strong opponents in the knockout stages. Unlike other teams who may have an easier path to the next phase, the Netherlands must prepare to face the African champions or samba stars from South America. Again, this seems unfair to Brazil who had to face the second-placed team, while the US got the third-placed team, even though both Brazil and the US won in their respective groups. Brazil are a team with a rich history, but they are beatable, and the Dutch will not feel like underdogs against them. A win will increase confidence, and Koeman definitely has the intention of achieving victory against Tunisia.
Whether against Morocco or Brazil, the Netherlands will face tough obstacles at the start of their road to the final stages of the World Cup. They can certainly beat both teams, and whoever they face will likely be the most anticipated match in the opening round of the 2026 World Cup knockouts.
